spxlVidSlap and spxlPicSlap are effects for Resolume (Avenue and Arena) that allow you to slap a video onto another video, or a layer, group, or even the composition! You can slap it on just as it is, or map it to slices defined in Advanced Output, much like using the Slice Transform effect.

These plugins allow you to insert content into your composition without having to introduce extra layers. Since they are effects, not only can they be used in many places, but they can be stacked on top of each other. Need to add three logos? Just use three effects on one clip. Each one has transform parameters, which allows you to animate your slices using parameter automation. It is like jamming a group into one clip.

Note that both spxlVidSlap and spxlPicSlap are included in this product listing for the one total price.

spxlVidSlap Parameters

  • Video In : The video file to load. You really should be using Resolume's optimised codec, DXV3.
  • Stack Mode and Stack Opacity : These are alternatives to using the standard Blend Mode and Opacity values; the modes offered are all those supported by Wire at the time it was made (Jan 2026), which is the list for the Video Mixer node type
  • Slice In : this is where you can drag in one or more slices to be rendered with the video texture
  • Slice Scaling : options None, Fit, Fill, Stretch are how the video texture should be sized if it doesn't have the same aspect ratio and size as the slice's it is being used to render
  • Play Mode : options Loop, Bounce, Play Once, Play Once and Hold, which are for the behavior of the Video Player
  • Buttons Play, Pause, Stop : basic functionality to control the playing of the video
  • Speed : the multiplier of the normal speed of the video to play, eg 2x is twice as fast as normal playback
  • Trans X, Trans Y, Rotation, Scale, Anchor X, Anchor Y : translation offset, rotation in degrees, etc for a transform you can apply to the video/slice rendered; the transform occurs after the slice is rendered, which allows you to animate the slice!

Note that PicSlap is the same idea, just with a Picture source instead of a video source. It has fewer parameters because there is no transport control to worry about for a still image.

spxlPicSlap Parameters

Note: these parameters are for the "_PicSlap" plugin in the original download file version (spxlVidSlap-wire-release_v260129-1558.zip). I am working on some changes including different naming and "Basic" versions that expose less control but multiple images per plugin instance that should be available in the first week of February 2026.

BUGS AND UPDATES

I noticed a node parameter with a not-the-best setting that may have limited video to looping after about 20 seconds. I've worked on a bunch of changes and new versions, including ones where you can load two, three or four videos in one instance of the plugin. This gives better performance than multiple instances, I assume due to some overhead such as extra texture copies made going in to and back from the plugins.

I will continue to make updates until the plugins works well for me. This platform has a counter for the number of times you can download to prevent abuse, and I increased the number from the default. Please do contact me if you experience any issues or have some suggestions / requests.

There may be variations of the Wire plugins in the downloads, but you should use just one with the same base name as they all have the same plugin identifier.

If the Wire version number is higher than your version of Resolume, it will probably not work, so you should check what version(s) this product has been built and tested with (below).

The filename for each Wire plugin indicates the version of Wire used to compile the plugin, and the end of the filenames have a file version made from the date and time.

Plugins with "-id" after the Wire version identify the version in the display name in Resolume, eg spxlPlugName 7.4.1 instead of just spxlPlugName.

Due to extremely limited screen space for blend modes in Resolume, mixer display names have been reduced, eg to _PlugName 7.4 where the "_" is short for "spxl" (which is short for "subpixel"), and the last point of the Wire version has been dropped.

Example: spxlPlugName-wire-7.4.1_v260131-2359.cwired

  • compiled with Resolume Wire version 7.4.1
  • on date in YYMMDD format: 31 Jan 2026
  • at time in HHMM format (24-hour clock): 23:59 (11:59PM)

Minimum host requirement: Resolume v7.23.2 (Windows and macOS)

Compiled with Resolume Wire v7.23.2(Win11).

Tested with Resolume Arena v7.23.2 (Win11).
